It is possible to create a specially crafted node name that does not exist as part of the cluster and point it to a malicious node. This can trick the nodes in cluster to believe that the malicious node is a member of the cluster. So, if Solr users have enabled BasicAuth authentication mechanism using the BasicAuthPlugin or if the user has implemented a custom Authentication plugin, which does not implement either \"HttpClientInterceptorPlugin\" or \"HttpClientBuilderPlugin\", his/her servers are vulnerable to this attack. Users who only use SSL without basic authentication or those who use Kerberos are not affected.","severity":{"version":"3.0","score":7.5,"vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N","level":"high","assessor":"primary","from":"nvd"},"epss":{"day":"2026-11-08","score":0.05632,"percentile":0.93,"model":"v2026.06.15"},"facts":{"in_kev":false,"known_exploited":false,"public_exploit":false,"fix_available":true},"cwes":["CWE-287"],"published":"2017-07-07T19:00:00Z","modified":"2026-10-24T10:30:53Z","fixes":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","fixed_in":["5.5.5","6.6.0"],"sources":["ghsa","osv"]}],"affected":[{"source":"ghsa","ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"5.3.0"},{"fixed":"5.5.5"}]}]},{"source":"ghsa","ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.0.0"},{"fixed":"6.6.0"}]}]},{"source":"osv","ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"5.3.0"},{"fixed":"5.5.5"}]}],"versions":["5.3.0","5.3.1","5.3.2","5.4.0","5.4.1","5.5.0","5.5.1","5.5.2","5.5.3","5.5.4"]},{"source":"osv","ecosystem":"Maven","package":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.0.0"},{"fixed":"6.6.0"}]}],"versions":["6.0.0","6.0.1","6.1.0","6.2.0","6.2.1","6.3.0","6.4.0","6.4.1","6.4.2","6.5.0","6.5.1"]}],"products":[{"vendor":"apache","product":"solr"},{"vendor":"apache software foundation","product":"apache solr"}],"references":[{"url":"https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20181127-0003/","tags":["x_refsource_CONFIRM","x_transferred","advisory"]},{"url":"http://mail-archives.us.apache.org/mod_mbox/www-announce/201707.mbox/%3CCAOOKt53EgrybaD%2BiSn-nBbvFdse-szhg%3DhMoDZuvUvyMme-Z%3Dg%40mail.gmail.com%3E","tags":["mailing-list","x_refsource_MLIST","x_transferred","Mailing List","Vendor Advisory","advisory"]},{"url":"http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/99485","tags":["vdb-entry","x_refsource_BID","x_transferred","Third Party Advisory","VDB Entry","advisory"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2017-7660","tags":["advisory"]},{"url":"https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-10624","tags":["web"]},{"url":"https://lists.apache.org/thread/o0g7vpz5sz4yy0pyf1z94vkpv40x6h44","tags":["web"]},{"url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-c82r-qg3w-q5mv"},{"url":"https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20181127-0003","tags":["web"]}],"sources":{"cve":[{"id":"CVE-2017-7660","description":"Apache Solr uses a PKI based mechanism to secure inter-node communication when security is enabled.
