By means of a crafted exchange of UDP packets, an unauthenticated attacker on the local network can leverage this null byte interaction error in such a way as to make those ephemeral passwords predictable (with 1-in-94 odds). Since the attacker must manipulate data processed by the OpenSSL function RSA_public_decrypt(), successful exploitation of this vulnerability depends on the use of an unpadded RSA cipher (CVE-2022-25218).","severity":{"version":"3.1","score":8.4,"vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","level":"high","assessor":"primary","from":"nvd"},"epss":{"day":"2026-11-07","score":0.0077,"percentile":0.55844,"model":"v2026.06.15"},"facts":{"in_kev":false,"known_exploited":false,"public_exploit":false,"fix_available":false},"cwes":["CWE-436"],"published":"2022-03-07T21:56:51Z","modified":"2026-06-17T04:33:13Z","products":[{"vendor":"phicomm","product":"k2_firmware"},{"vendor":"phicomm","product":"k2g_firmware"},{"vendor":"phicomm","product":"k2p_firmware"},{"vendor":"phicomm","product":"k3_firmware"},{"vendor":"phicomm","product":"k3c_firmware"}],"references":[{"url":"https://www.tenable.com/security/research/tra-2022-01","tags":["x_refsource_MISC","x_transferred","Exploit","Third Party Advisory"]},{"url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-25219"},{"url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vh93-7ch4-7jjr"}],"sources":{"cve":[{"id":"CVE-2022-25219","description":"A null byte interaction error has been discovered in the code that the telnetd_startup daemon uses to construct a pair of ephemeral passwords that allow a user to spawn a telnet service on the router, and to ensure that the telnet service persists upon reboot.
