CVE-2023-52522
net: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work()
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work()
While looking at a related syzbot report involving neigh_periodic_work(), I found that I forgot to add an annotation when deleting an RCU protected item from a list.
Readers use rcu_deference(*np), we need to use either rcu_assign_pointer() or WRITE_ONCE() on writer side to prevent store tearing.
I use rcu_assign_pointer() to have lockdep support, this was the choice made in neigh_flush_dev().

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
ALSA: hda: intel-sdw-acpi: harden detection of controller
The existing code currently sets a pointer to an ACPI handle before checking that it's actually a SoundWire controller. This can lead to issues where the graph walk continues and eventually fails, but the pointer was set already.
This patch changes the logic so that the information provided to the caller is set when a controller is found.(CVE-2021-46926)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
uio_hv_generic: Fix another memory leak in error handling paths
Memory allocated by 'vmbus_alloc_ring()' at the beginning of the probe function is never freed in the error handling path.
Add the missing 'vmbus_free_ring()' call.
Note that it is already freed in the .remove function.(CVE-2021-47070)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
asix: fix uninit-value in asix_mdio_read()
asix_read_cmd() may read less than sizeof(smsr) bytes and in this case smsr will be uninitialized.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
EDAC/thunderx: Fix possible out-of-bounds string access
Enabling -Wstringop-overflow globally exposes a warning for a common bug in the usage of strncat():
drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c: In function 'thunderx_ocx_com_threaded_isr': drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c:1136:17: error: 'strncat' specified bound 1024 equals destination size [-Werror=stringop-overflow=] 1136 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... 1145 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); ... 1150 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE);
...
Apparently the author of this driver expected strncat() to behave the way that strlcat() does, which uses the size of the destination buffer as its third argument rather than the length of the source buffer. The result is that there is no check on the size of the allocated buffer.
Change it to strlcat().

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
i2c: img-scb: fix reference leak when pm_runtime_get_sync fails
The PM reference count is not expected to be incremented on return in functions img_i2c_xfer and img_i2c_init.
However, pm_runtime_get_sync will increment the PM reference count even failed. Forgetting to putting operation will result in a reference leak here.
Replace it with pm_runtime_resume_and_get to keep usage counter balanced.(CVE-2020-36783)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
kyber: fix out of bounds access when preempted
__blk_mq_sched_bio_merge() gets the ctx and hctx for the current CPU and passes the hctx to ->bio_merge(). kyber_bio_merge() then gets the ctx for the current CPU again and uses that to get the corresponding Kyber context in the passed hctx. However, the thread may be preempted between the two calls to blk_mq_get_ctx(), and the ctx returned the second time may no longer correspond to the passed hctx. This "works" accidentally most of the time, but it can cause us to read garbage if the second ctx came from an hctx with more ctx's than the first one (i.e., if ctx->index_hw[hctx->type] > hctx->nr_ctx).
This manifested as this UBSAN array index out of bounds error reported by Jakub:
UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in ../kernel/locking/qspinlock.c:130:9 index 13106 is out of range for type 'long unsigned int [128]' Call Trace: dump_stack+0xa4/0xe5 ubsan_epilogue+0x5/0x40 __ubsan_handle_out_of_bounds.cold.13+0x2a/0x34 queued_spin_lock_slowpath+0x476/0x480 do_raw_spin_lock+0x1c2/0x1d0 kyber_bio_merge+0x112/0x180 blk_mq_submit_bio+0x1f5/0x1100 submit_bio_noacct+0x7b0/0x870 submit_bio+0xc2/0x3a0 btrfs_map_bio+0x4f0/0x9d0 btrfs_submit_data_bio+0x24e/0x310 submit_one_bio+0x7f/0xb0 submit_extent_page+0xc4/0x440 __extent_writepage_io+0x2b8/0x5e0 __extent_writepage+0x28d/0x6e0 extent_write_cache_pages+0x4d7/0x7a0 extent_writepages+0xa2/0x110 do_writepages+0x8f/0x180 __writeback_single_inode+0x99/0x7f0 writeback_sb_inodes+0x34e/0x790 __writeback_inodes_wb+0x9e/0x120 wb_writeback+0x4d2/0x660 wb_workfn+0x64d/0xa10 process_one_work+0x53a/0xa80 worker_thread+0x69/0x5b0 kthread+0x20b/0x240 ret_from_fork+0x1f/0x30
Only Kyber uses the hctx, so fix it by passing the request_queue to ->bio_merge() instead. BFQ and mq-deadline just use that, and Kyber can map the queues itself to avoid the mismatch.(CVE-2021-46984)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bus: qcom: Put child node before return
Put child node before return to fix potential reference count leak. Generally, the reference count of child is incremented and decremented automatically in the macro for_each_available_child_of_node() and should be decremented manually if the loop is broken in loop body.(CVE-2021-47054)

ADF_STATUS_PF_RUNNING is (only) used and checked by adf_vf2pf_shutdown() before calling adf_iov_putmsg()->mutex_lock(vf2pf_lock), however the vf2pf_lock is initialized in adf_dev_init(), which can fail and when it fail, the vf2pf_lock is either not initialized or destroyed, a subsequent use of vf2pf_lock will cause issue. EDAC/thunderx: Fix possible out-of-bounds string access
Enabling -Wstringop-overflow globally exposes a warning for a common bug in the usage of strncat():
drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c: In function 'thunderx_ocx_com_threaded_isr': drivers/edac/thunderx_edac.c:1136:17: error: 'strncat' specified bound 1024 equals destination size [-Werror=stringop-overflow=] 1136 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... 1145 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE); ... 1150 | strncat(msg, other, OCX_MESSAGE_SIZE);

Apparently the author of this driver expected strncat() to behave the way that strlcat() does, which uses the size of the destination buffer as its third argument rather than the length of the source buffer. The result is that there is no check on the size of the allocated buffer.
Change it to strlcat().

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
Input: powermate - fix use-after-free in powermate_config_complete
syzbot has found a use-after-free bug [1] in the powermate driver. This happens when the device is disconnected, which leads to a memory free from the powermate_device struct. When an asynchronous control message completes after the kfree and its callback is invoked, the lock does not exist anymore and hence the bug.
Use usb_kill_urb() on pm->config to cancel any in-progress requests upon device disconnection.

OSVUBUNTU-CVE-2023-52522
5.7
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: fix possible store tearing in neigh_periodic_work() While looking at a related syzbot report involving neigh_periodic_work(), I found that I forgot to add an annotation when deleting an RCU protected item from a list. Readers use rcu_deference(*np), we need to use either rcu_assign_pointer() or WRITE_ONCE() on writer side to prevent store tearing. I use rcu_assign_pointer() to have lockdep support, this was the choice made in neigh_flush_dev().
