kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
can: dev: can_get_echo_skb(): prevent call to kfree_skb() in hard IRQ context
If a driver calls can_get_echo_skb() during a hardware IRQ (which is often, but not always, the case), the 'WARN_ON(in_irq)' in net/core/skbuff.c#skb_release_head_state() might be triggered, under network congestion circumstances, together with the potential risk of a NULL pointer dereference.
The root cause of this issue is the call to kfree_skb() instead of dev_kfree_skb_irq() in net/core/dev.c#enqueue_to_backlog().
This patch prevents the skb to be freed within the call to netif_rx() by incrementing its reference count with skb_get(). The skb is finally freed by one of the in-irq-context safe functions: dev_consume_skb_any() or dev_kfree_skb_any(). The "any" version is used because some drivers might call can_get_echo_skb() in a normal context.
The reason for this issue to occur is that initially, in the core network stack, loopback skb were not supposed to be received in hardware IRQ context. The CAN stack is an exeption.
This bug was previously reported back in 2017 in [1] but the proposed patch never got accepted.
While [1] directly modifies net/core/dev.c, we try to propose here a smoother modification local to CAN network stack (the assumption behind is that only CAN devices are affected by this issue).

video: fbdev: cirrusfb: check pixclock to avoid divide by zero
Do a sanity check on pixclock value to avoid divide by zero.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
can: dev: can_restart: fix use after free bug
After calling netif_rx_ni(skb), dereferencing skb is unsafe. Especially, the can_frame cf which aliases skb memory is accessed after the netif_rx_ni() in: stats->rx_bytes += cf->len;
Reordering the lines solves the issue.(CVE-2021-47668)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
can: peak_usb: fix use after free bugs
After calling peak_usb_netif_rx_ni(skb), dereferencing skb is unsafe. Especially, the can_frame cf which aliases skb memory is accessed after the peak_usb_netif_rx_ni().
Reordering the lines solves the issue.(CVE-2021-47670)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
qede: confirm skb is allocated before using
qede_build_skb() assumes build_skb() always works and goes straight to skb_reserve(). However, build_skb() can fail under memory pressure. This results in a kernel panic because the skb to reserve is NULL.
Add a check in case build_skb() failed to allocate and return NULL.
The NULL return is handled correctly in callers to qede_build_skb().(CVE-2022-49084)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: openvswitch: fix leak of nested actions
While parsing user-provided actions, openvswitch module may dynamically allocate memory and store pointers in the internal copy of the actions. So this memory has to be freed while destroying the actions.
Currently there are only two such actions: ct() and set(). However, there are many actions that can hold nested lists…

Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
bpf: consider that tail calls invalidate packet pointers
Tail-called programs could execute any of the helpers that invalidate packet pointers. Hence, conservatively assume that each tail call invalidates packet pointers.
Making the change in bpf_helper_changes_pkt_data() automatically makes use of check_cfg() logic that computes 'changes_pkt_data' effect for global sub-programs, such that the following program could be rejected:
int tail_call(struct __sk_buff *sk)

The tc_bpf2bpf.c:subprog_tc() needs change: mark it as a function that can invalidate packet pointers. Otherwise, it can't be freplaced with tailcall_freplace.c:entry_freplace() that does a tail call.(CVE-2024-58237)

The main purpose of bnxt_xdp_build_skb() is to update skb_shared_info, but it updates ip_summed value too if checksum offload is enabled. This is actually duplicate work.
When the bnxt_rx_pkt() updates ip_summed value, it checks if ip_summed is CHECKSUM_NONE or not. It means that ip_summed should be CHECKSUM_NONE at this moment. But ip_summed may already be updated to CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY in the XDP-MB-PASS path. So the by skb_checksum_none_assert() WARNS about it.
This is duplicate work and updating ip_summed in the bnxt_xdp_build_skb() is not needed.

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
vlan: enforce underlying device type
Currently, VLAN devices can be created on top of non-ethernet devices.
Besides the fact that it doesn't make much sense, this also causes a bug which leaks the address of a kernel function to usermode.
When creating a VLAN device, we initialize GARP (garp_init_applicant) and MRP (mrp_init_applicant) for the underlying device.
As part of the initialization process, we add the multicast address of each applicant to the underlying device, by calling dev_mc_add.
__dev_mc_add uses dev->addr_len to determine the length of the new multicast address.
This causes an out-of-bounds read if dev->addr_len is greater than 6, since the multicast addresses provided by GARP and MRP are only 6 bytes long.
This behaviour can be reproduced using the following commands:
ip tunnel add gretest mode ip6gre local ::1 remote ::2 dev lo ip l set up dev gretest ip link add link gretest name vlantest type vlan id 100
Then, the following command will display the address of garp_pdu_rcv:
ip maddr show | grep 01:80:c2:00:00:21
Fix the bug by enforcing the type of the underlying device during VLAN device initialization.(CVE-2025-21920)

In __udp_gso_segment the skb destructor is removed before segmenting the skb but the socket reference is kept as-is. This is an issue if the original skb is later orphaned as we can hit the following bug:
kernel BUG at ./include/linux/skbuff.h:3312! (skb_orphan) RIP: 0010:ip_rcv_core+0x8b2/0xca0 Call Trace: ip_rcv+0xab/0x6e0 __netif_receive_skb_one_core+0x168/0x1b0 process_backlog+0x384/0x1100 __napi_poll.constprop.0+0xa1/0x370 net_rx_action+0x925/0xe50
The above can happen following a sequence of events when using OpenVSwitch, when an OVS_ACTION_ATTR_USERSPACE action precedes an OVS_ACTION_ATTR_OUTPUT action:
- OVS_ACTION_ATTR_USERSPACE is handled (in do_execute_actions): the skb goes through queue_gso_packets and then __udp_gso_segment, where its destructor is removed.
- The segments' data are copied and sent to userspace.
- OVS_ACTION_ATTR_OUTPUT is handled (in do_execute_actions) and the same original skb is sent to its path.
- If it later hits skb_orphan, we hit the bug.
Fix this by also removing the reference to the socket in __udp_gso_segment.(CVE-2025-21926)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: atm: fix use after free in lec_send()
The ->send() operation frees skb so save the length before calling ->send() to avoid a use after free.(CVE-2025-22004)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
posix-cpu-timers: fix race between handle_posix_cpu_timers() and posix_cpu_timer_del()
If an exiting non-autoreaping task has already passed exit_notify() and calls handle_posix_cpu_timers() from IRQ, it can be reaped by its parent or debugger right after unlock_task_sighand().
If a concurrent posix_cpu_timer_del() runs at that moment, it won't be able to detect timer->it.cpu.firing != 0: cpu_timer_task_rcu() and/or lock_task_sighand() will fail.
Add the tsk->exit_state check into run_posix_cpu_timers() to fix this.
This fix is not needed if CONFIG_POSIX_CPU_TIMERS_TASK_WORK=y, because exit_task_work() is called before exit_notify(). But the check still makes sense, task_work_add(&tsk->posix_cputimers_work.work) will fail anyway in this case.(CVE-2025-38352)

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: gso: fix ownership in __udp_gso_segment

Left out here: 1,244 package rows, 2,104 versions, 2,367 references and the rest of 7 source descriptions. The JSON record has them. Also not on the record: 6 aliases. ID and package lookups still check them. Left out on purpose, here and in the API, to keep responses small: 55 source records.
