CVE-2025-6176
Brotli decompression bomb DoS in scrapy/scrapy
Scrapy versions up to 2.13.2 are vulnerable to a denial of service (DoS) attack due to a flaw in its brotli decompression implementation. The protection mechanism against decompression bombs fails to mitigate the brotli variant, allowing remote servers to crash clients with less than 80GB of available memory. This occurs because brotli can achieve extremely high compression ratios for zero-filled data, leading to excessive memory consumption during decompression.

brotli security update
Brotli is a generic-purpose lossless compression algorithm that compresses data using a combination of a modern variant of the LZ77 algorithm, Huffman coding and 2nd order context modeling, with a compression ratio comparable to the best currently available general-purpose compression methods. The protection mechanism against decompression bombs fails to mitigate the brotli variant, allowing remote servers to crash clients with less than 80GB of available memory. This occurs because brotli can achieve extremely high compression ratios for zero-filled data, leading to excessive memory consumption during decompression.

- CVE-2026-111497: Brotli decoder out-of-bounds write permits remote code execution (bsc#1287779).
Update to 1.2.1:
- decoder / encoder: added static initialization to reduce binary size
- python: allow limiting decoder output (see SECURITY section)
- python: modernize extension / allow multi-phase module initialization
- decoder / encoder: static tables use "small" model (allows 2GiB+ binaries)
