Mozilla Firefox is a standalone web browser, designed for standards compliance and performance. Its functionality can be enhanced via a plethora of extensions.
Mozilla Firefox is an open-source web browser, designed for standards compliance, performance and portability.
Security Fix(es):
Mozilla developers reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox for Android 79. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 80, Firefox ESR < 78.2, Thunderbird < 78.2, and Firefox for Android < 80.(CVE-2020-15670)
Mozilla developers reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 80 and Firefox ESR 78.2. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 81, Thunderbird < 78.3, and Firefox ESR < 78.3.(CVE-2020-15673)
Mozilla developers reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 80. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 81.(CVE-2020-15674)
When processing surfaces, the lifetime may outlive a persistent buffer leading to memory corruption and a potentially exploitable crash. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 81.(CVE-2020-15675)
If a valid external protocol handler was referenced in an image tag, the resulting broken image size could be distinguished from a broken image size of a non-existent protocol handler. This allowed an attacker to successfully probe whether an external protocol handler was registered. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 82.(CVE-2020-15680)
When multiple WASM threads had a reference to a module, and were looking up exported functions, one WASM thread could have overwritten another's entry in a shared stub table, resulting in a potentially exploitable crash. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 82.(CVE-2020-15681)
When a link to an external protocol was clicked, a prompt was presented that allowed the user to choose what application to open it in. An attacker could induce that prompt to be associated with an origin they didn't control, resulting in a spoofing attack. This was fixed by changing external protocol prompts to be tab-modal while also ensuring they could not be incorrectly associated with a different origin. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 82.(CVE-2020-15682)
Mozilla developers and community members reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 81 and Firefox ESR 78.3. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. Unexpected data returned from the Safe Browsing API could have led to memory corruption and a potentially exploitable crash. This vulnerability affects Thunderbird < 102.10 and Firefox ESR < 102.10.(CVE-2023-1945)
There exists a use after free/double free in libwebp. An attacker can use the ApplyFiltersAndEncode() function and loop through to free best.bw and assign best = trial pointer. The second loop will then return 0 because of an Out of memory error in VP8 encoder, the pointer is still assigned to trial and the AddressSanitizer will attempt a double free.(CVE-2023-1999)
A website could have obscured the fullscreen notification by using a combination of <code>window.open</code>, fullscreen requests, <code>window.name</code> assignments, and <code>setInterval</code> calls. This could have led to user confusion and possible spoofing attacks. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 112, Focus for Android < 112, Firefox ESR < 102.10, Firefox for Android < 112, and Thunderbird < 102.10.(CVE-2023-29533)

Updated firefox packages fix security vulnerability
Updated firefox and libwebp packages fix security vulnerabilities:
Unexpected data returned from the Safe Browsing API could have led to memory corruption and a potentially exploitable crash (CVE-2023-1945).
A website could have obscured the fullscreen notification by using a combination of window.open, fullscreen requests, window.name assignments, and setInterval calls. This could have led to user confusion and possible spoofing attacks (CVE-2023-29533).
Following a Garbage Collector compaction, weak maps may have been accessed before they were correctly traced. This resulted in memory corruption and a potentially exploitable crash (CVE-2023-29535).
An attacker could, via JavaScript code, cause the memory manager to incorrectly free a pointer that addresses attacker-controlled memory, resulting in an assertion, memory corruption, or a potentially exploitable crash (CVE-2023-29536).
When handling the filename directive in the Content-Disposition header, the filename would be truncated if the filename contained a NULL character. This could have led to reflected file download attacks potentially tricking users to install malware (CVE-2023-29539).
Firefox did not properly handle downloads of files ending in .desktop, which can be interpreted to run attacker-controlled commands (CVE-2023-29541).
Mozilla developers Andrew Osmond, Sebastian Hengst, Andrew McCreight, and the Mozilla Fuzzing Team reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox ESR 102.9. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code (CVE-2023-29550).
A double-free in libwebp could have led to memory corruption and a potentially exploitable crash (MFSA-TMP-2023-0001).

thunderbird vulnerabilities
Multiple security issues were discovered in Thunderbird. If a user were tricked into opening a specially crafted website in a browsing context, an attacker could potentially exploit these to cause a denial of service, obtain sensitive information, bypass security restrictions, cross-site tracing, or execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2023-1945, CVE-2023-29548, CVE-2023-29550)
Paul Menzel discovered that Thunderbird did not properly validate OCSP revocation status of recipient certificates when sending S/Mime encrypted email. An attacker could potentially exploits this issue to perform spoofing attack. (CVE-2023-0547)
Ribose RNP Team discovered that Thunderbird did not properly manage memory when parsing certain OpenPGP messages. An attacker could potentially exploits this issue to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2023-29479)
Irvan Kurniawan discovered that Thunderbird did not properly manage fullscreen notifications using a combination of window.open, fullscreen requests, window.name assignments, and setInterval calls. An attacker could potentially exploit this issue to perform spoofing attacks. (CVE-2023-29533)
Lukas Bernhard discovered that Thunderbird did not properly manage memory when doing Garbage Collector compaction. An attacker could potentially exploits this issue to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2023-29535)
Zx from qriousec discovered that Thunderbird did not properly validate the address to free a pointer provided to the memory manager. An attacker could potentially exploits this issue to cause a denial of service. (CVE-2023-29536)
Trung Pham discovered that Thunderbird did not properly validate the filename directive in the Content-Disposition header. An attacker could possibly exploit this to perform reflected file download attacks potentially tricking users to install malware. (CVE-2023-29539)
Ameen Basha M K discovered that Thunderbird did not properly validate downloads of files ending in .desktop. An attacker could potentially exploits this issue to execute arbitrary code. (CVE-2023-29541)
