The inode_init_owner function in fs/inode.c in the Linux kernel through 3.16 allows local users to create files with an unintended group ownership, in a scenario where a directory is SGID to a certain group and is writable by a user who is not a member of that group. Here, the non-member can trigger creation of a plain file whose group ownership is that group. The intended behavior was that the non-member can trigger creation of a directory (but not a plain file) whose group ownership is that group. The non-member can escalate privileges by making the plain file executable and SGID.

Updated kernel packages fixes security vulnerabilities
This kernel update is based on the upstream 4.14.56 and fixes at least the following security issues:
kernel KVM before versions kernel 4.16, kernel 4.16-rc7, kernel 4.17-rc1, kernel 4.17-rc2 and kernel 4.17-rc3 is vulnerable to a flaw in the way the Linux kernel's KVM hypervisor handled exceptions delivered after a stack switch operation via Mov SS or Pop SS instructions. During the stack switch operation, the processor did not deliver interrupts and exceptions, rather they are delivered once the first instruction after the stack switch is executed. An unprivileged KVM guest user could use this flaw to crash the guest or, potentially, escalate their privileges in the guest (CVE-2018-1087).
Linux kernel vhost since version 4.8 does not properly initialize memory in messages passed between virtual guests and the host operating system in the vhost/vhost.c:vhost_new_msg() function. This can allow local privileged users to read some kernel memory contents when reading from the /dev/vhost-net device file (CVE-2018-1118).
In some circumstances, some operating systems or hypervisors may not expect or properly handle an Intel architecture hardware debug exception. The error appears to be due to developer interpretation of existing documentation for certain Intel architecture interrupt/exception instructions, namely MOV SS and POP SS. An authenticated attacker may be able to read sensitive data in memory or control low-level operating system functions (CVE-2018-8897).
Linux kernel is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow in the fs/ext4/xattr.c:ext4_xattr_set_entry() function. An attacker could exploit this by operating on a mounted crafted ext4 image (CVE-2018-10840).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 File System. A use-after-free in ext4_ext_remove_space() when mounting and operating a crafted ext4 image (CVE-2018-10876).
Linux kernel ext4 filesystem is vulnerable to an out-of-bound access in the ext4_ext_drop_refs() function when operating on a crafted ext4 filesystem image (CVE-2018-10877).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 filesystem. A local user can cause a use-after-free in ext4_xattr_set_entry function and so a denial of service or possibly unspecified other impact by when renaming a file in a crafted ext4 filesystem image (CVE-2018-10879).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 filesystem code. A stack-out-of-bounds write in ext4_update_inline_data() is possible when mounting and writing to a crafted ext4 image. An attacker could use this to cause a system crash and a denial of service (CVE-2018-10880).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 filesystem. A local user can cause an out-of-bound access in ext4_get_group_info function and so a denial of service and a system crash by mounting and operating on a crafted ext4 filesystem image (CVE-2018-10881).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 File System. An out-of-bound write when unmounting a crafted ext4 image in fs/jbd2/transaction.c. An attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) (CVE-2018-10882).
A flaw was found in Linux kernel ext4 File System. An out-of-bound write in jbd2_journal_dirty_metadata() that kernel cannot handle when mounting and operating a crafted ext4 image. An attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) (CVE-2018-10883).
In the Linux kernel 4.13 through 4.16.11, ext4_read_inline_data() in fs/ext4/inline.c performs a memcpy with an untrusted length value in certain circumstances involving a crafted filesystem that stores the system.data extended attribute value in a dedicated inode (CVE-2018-11412).
The inode_init_owner function in fs/inode.c in the Linux kernel through 4.17.4 allows local users to create files with an unintended group ownership, in a scenario where a directory is SGID to a certain group and is writable by a user who is not a member of that group. Here, the non-member can trigger creation of a plain file whose group ownership is that group. The intended behavior was…

Updated kernel-tmb packages fix security vulnerabilities
This kernel-tmb update is based on the upstream 4.14.62 and fixes at least the following security issues:
kernel KVM before versions kernel 4.16, kernel 4.16-rc7, kernel 4.17-rc1, kernel 4.17-rc2 and kernel 4.17-rc3 is vulnerable to a flaw in the way the Linux kernel's KVM hypervisor handled exceptions delivered after a stack switch operation via Mov SS or Pop SS instructions. Security researchers from FICORA have identified a remote denial of service attack against the Linux kernel caused by inefficient implementation of TCP segment reassembly, named "SegmentSmack". A remote attacker could consume a lot of CPU resources in the kernel networking stack with just a low bandwidth or single host attack by using lots of small TCP segments packets. Usually large botnets are needed for similar effect. The rate needed for this denial of service attack to be effective is several magnitudes lower than the usual packet processing capability of the machine, as the attack exploits worst case behaviour of existing algorithms (CVE-2018-5390). In the function sbusfb_ioctl_helper() in drivers/video/fbdev/sbuslib.c in the Linux kernel through 4.15, an integer signedness error allows arbitrary information leakage for the FBIOPUTCMAP_SPARC and FBIOGETCMAP_SPARC commands (CVE-2018-6412).

Security update for the Linux Kernel
The openSUSE Leap 15.2 kernel was updated to receive various security and bugfixes.
The following security bugs were fixed:
- CVE-2018-13405: The inode_init_owner function in fs/inode.c allowed local users to create files with an unintended group ownership, in a scenario where a directory is SGID to a certain group and is writable by a user who is not a member of that group. Here, the non-member can trigger creation of a plain file whose group ownership is that group. The intended behavior was that the non-member can trigger creation of a directory (but not a plain file) whose group ownership is that group. The non-member can escalate privileges by making the plain file executable and SGID (bnc#1100416 bnc#1129735).
- CVE-2021-33033: The Linux kernel had a use-after-free in cipso_v4_genopt in net/ipv4/cipso_ipv4.c because the CIPSO and CALIPSO refcounting for the DOI definitions is mishandled, aka CID-ad5d07f4a9cd. This leads to writing an arbitrary value (bnc#1186109 bnc#1188876).
- CVE-2021-34556: An unprivileged BPF program can obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a Speculative Store Bypass side-channel attack because the protection mechanism neglects the possibility of uninitialized memory locations on the BPF stack (bnc#1188983).
- CVE-2021-35477: An unprivileged BPF program can obtain sensitive information from kernel memory via a Speculative Store Bypass side-channel attack because a certain preempting store operation did not necessarily occur before a store operation that has an attacker-controlled value (bnc#1188985).
- CVE-2021-3655: Missing size validations on inbound SCTP packets may have allowed the kernel to read uninitialized memory (bnc#1188563 bnc#1192267).
- CVE-2021-3715: Fixed a use-after-free in route4_change() in net/sched/cls_route.c (bsc#1190349).
- CVE-2021-3760: Fixed a use-after-free vulnerability with the ndev->rf_conn_info object (bsc#1190067).
- CVE-2021-3772: Invalid chunks may be used to remotely remove existing associations (bsc#1190351).
- CVE-2021-3896: Fixed a array-index-out-bounds in detach_capi_ctr in drivers/isdn/capi/kcapi.c (bsc#1191958).
- CVE-2021-41864: prealloc_elems_and_freelist in kernel/bpf/stackmap.c allowed unprivileged users to trigger an eBPF multiplication integer overflow with a resultant out-of-bounds write (bnc#1191317).
- CVE-2021-42008: The decode_data function in drivers/net/hamradio/6pack.c had a slab out-of-bounds write. Input from a process that has the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability can lead to root access (bnc#1191315).
- CVE-2021-42252: An issue was discovered in aspeed_lpc_ctrl_mmap in drivers/soc/aspeed/aspeed-lpc-ctrl.c where local attackers were able to access the Aspeed LPC control interface could overwrite memory in the kernel and potentially execute privileges, aka CID-b49a0e69a7b1. This occurs because a certain comparison uses values that are not memory sizes (bnc#1190479).
- CVE-2021-42739: The firewire subsystem had a buffer overflow related to drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-avc.c and drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-ci.c, because avc_ca_pmt mishandled bounds checking (bnc#1184673 bnc#1192036).
- CVE-2021-42739: The firewire subsystem had a buffer overflow related to drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-avc.c and drivers/media/firewire/firedtv-ci.c, because avc_ca_pmt mishandled bounds checking (bsc#1184673).
- CVE-2021-43056: It allowed a malicious KVM guest to crash the host, when the host is running on Power8, due to an arch/powerpc/kvm/book3s_hv_rmhandlers.S implementation bug in the handling of the SRR1 register values (bnc#1192107).
The following non-security bugs were fixed:
- acpi/arm64: fix next_platform_timer() section mismatch error (git-fixes).
- ACPI: bgrt: Fix CFI violation (git-fixes).
- ACPI: fix NULL pointer dereference (git-fixes).
- ACPI: Use DEVICE_ATTR_<RW|RO|WO> macros (git-fixes).

CVE-2021-0941: In bpf_skb_change_head of filter.c, there is a possible out of bounds read due to a use after free. This could lead to local escalation of privilege with System execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation (bnc#1192045).
-
CVE-2021-31916: An out-of-bounds (OOB) memory write flaw was found in list_devices in drivers/md/dm-ioctl.c in the Multi-device driver module in the Linux kernel A bound check failure allowed an attacker with special user (CAP_SYS_ADMIN) privilege to gain access to out-of-bounds memory leading to a system crash or a leak of internal kernel information. The highest threat from this vulnerability is to system availability (bnc#1192781).

Security update for the Linux Kernel
The SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP2 LTSS kernel was updated to receive various security and bugfixes.
The following security bugs were fixed:
- CVE-2018-3620: Local attackers on baremetal systems could use speculative code patterns on hyperthreaded processors to read data present in the L1 Datacache used by other hyperthreads on the same CPU core, potentially leaking sensitive data. (bnc#1087081).
- CVE-2018-3646: Local attackers in virtualized guest systems could use speculative code patterns on hyperthreaded processors to read data present in the L1 Datacache used by other hyperthreads on the same CPU core, potentially leaking sensitive data, even from other virtual machines or the host system. (bnc#1089343).
- CVE-2018-5390 aka 'SegmentSmack': The Linux Kernel can be forced to make very expensive calls to tcp_collapse_ofo_queue() and tcp_prune_ofo_queue() for every incoming packet which can lead to a denial of service (bnc#1102340).
- CVE-2018-5391 aka 'FragmentSmack': A flaw in the IP packet reassembly could be used by remote attackers to consume lots of CPU time (bnc#1103097).
- CVE-2018-14734: drivers/infiniband/core/ucma.c allowed ucma_leave_multicast to access a certain data structure after a cleanup step in ucma_process_join, which allowed attackers to cause a denial of service (use-after-free) (bnc#1103119).
- CVE-2017-18344: The timer_create syscall implementation in kernel/time/posix-timers.c didn't properly validate the sigevent->sigev_notify field, which leads to out-of-bounds access in the show_timer function (called when /proc/$PID/timers is read). This allowed userspace applications to read arbitrary kernel memory (on a kernel built with CONFIG_POSIX_TIMERS and CONFIG_CHECKPOINT_RESTORE) (bnc#1102851 bnc#1103580).
- CVE-2018-9385: When printing the 'driver_override' option from with-in the amba driver, a very long line could expose one additional uninitialized byte (bnc#1100491).
- CVE-2018-13053: The alarm_timer_nsleep function in kernel/time/alarmtimer.c had an integer overflow via a large relative timeout because ktime_add_safe is not used (bnc#1099924).
The non-member can escalate privileges by making the plain file executable and SGID (bnc#1100416).
- CVE-2018-13406: An integer overflow in the uvesafb_setcmap function in drivers/video/fbdev/uvesafb.c could result in local attackers being able to crash the kernel or potentially elevate privileges because kmalloc_array is not used (bnc#1098016 1100418).
- CVE-2018-5814: Multiple race condition errors when handling probe, disconnect, and rebind operations could be exploited to trigger a use-after-free condition or a NULL pointer dereference by sending multiple USB over IP packets (bnc#1096480).
The following non-security bugs were fixed:
- Add support for 5,25,50, and 100G to 802.3ad bonding driver (bsc#1096978)
- bcache: add backing_request_endio() for bi_end_io (bsc#1064232).
- bcache: add CACHE_SET_IO_DISABLE to struct cache_set flags (bsc#1064232).
