CVE-2025-38085
mm/hugetlb: fix huge_pmd_unshare() vs GUP-fast race
CVE-2025-38085 is a high vulnerability (CVSS 7.8) in Debian Linux, published June 28, 2025. No source lists public exploit code. EPSS puts the chance of exploitation in the next 30 days at 0.16%, the 5th percentile. Fixed in bpftool 4.18.0-553.69.1.el8_10.
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
mm/hugetlb: fix huge_pmd_unshare() vs GUP-fast race
huge_pmd_unshare() drops a reference on a page table that may have previously been shared across processes, potentially turning it into a normal page table used in another process in which unrelated VMAs can afterwards be installed.
If this happens in the middle of a concurrent gup_fast(), gup_fast() could end up walking the page tables of another process. While I don't see any way in which that immediately leads to kernel memory corruption, it is really weird and unexpected.
Fix it with an explicit broadcast IPI through tlb_remove_table_sync_one(), just like we do in khugepaged when removing page tables for a THP collapse.

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
netfilter: nf_tables: avoid skb access on nf_stolen
When verdict is NF_STOLEN, the skb might have been freed.
When tracing is enabled, this can result in a use-after-free:
- access to skb->nf_trace
- access to skb->mark
- computation of trace id
- dump of packet payload
To avoid 1, keep a cached copy of skb->nf_trace in the trace state struct. Refresh this copy whenever verdict is != STOLEN.
Avoid 2 by skipping skb->mark access if verdict is STOLEN.
3 is avoided by precomputing the trace id.
Only dump the packet when verdict is not "STOLEN".(CVE-2022-49622)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
gtp: Destroy device along with udp socket's netns dismantle.
gtp_newlink() links the device to a list in dev_net(dev) instead of src_net, where a udp tunnel socket is created.
Even when src_net is removed, the device stays alive on dev_net(dev). Then, removing src_net triggers the splat below. [0]
In this example, gtp0 is created in ns2, and the udp socket is created in ns1.
ip netns add ns1 ip netns add ns2 ip -n ns1 link add netns ns2 name gtp0 type gtp role sgsn ip netns del ns1
Let's link the device to the socket's netns instead.
Now, gtp_net_exit_batch_rtnl() needs another netdev iteration to remove all gtp devices in the netns.

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):

OSVUBUNTU-CVE-2025-38085
5.8
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/hugetlb: fix huge_pmd_unshare() vs GUP-fast race huge_pmd_unshare() drops a reference on a page table that may have previously been shared across processes, potentially turning it into a normal page table used in another process in which unrelated VMAs can afterwards be installed.
