Security Fix(es):

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: bpf: Fix helper writes to read-only maps Lonial found an issue that despite user- and BPF-side frozen BPF map (like in case of .rodata), it was still possible to write into it from a BPF program side through specific helpers having ARG_PTR_TO_{LONG,INT} as arguments. In check_func_arg() when the argument is as mentioned, the meta->raw_mode is never set. Later, check_helper_mem_access(), under the case of PTR_TO_MAP_VALUE as register base type, it assumes BPF_READ for the subsequent call to check_map_access_type() and given the BPF map is read-only it succeeds. The helpers really need to be annotated as ARG_PTR_TO_{LONG,INT} | MEM_UNINIT when results are written into them as opposed to read out of them. The latter indicates that it's okay to pass a pointer to uninitialized memory as the memory is written to anyway. However, ARG_PTR_TO_{LONG,INT} is a special case of ARG_PTR_TO_FIXED_SIZE_MEM just with additional alignment requirement. So it is better to just get rid of the ARG_PTR_TO_{LONG,INT} special cases altogether and reuse the fixed size memory types. For this, add MEM_ALIGNED to additionally ensure alignment given these helpers write directly into the args via <ptr> = val. The .arg_size has been initialized reflecting the actual sizeof(*<ptr>). MEM_ALIGNED can only be used in combination with MEM_FIXED_SIZE annotated argument types, since in !MEM_FIXED_SIZE cases the verifier does not know the buffer size a priori and therefore cannot blindly write *<ptr> = val.(CVE-2024-49861)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: vhost/scsi: null-ptr-dereference in vhost_scsi_get_req() Since commit 3f8ca2e115e5 ("vhost/scsi: Extract common handling code from control queue handler") a null pointer dereference bug can be triggered when guest sends an SCSI AN request. In vhost_scsi_ctl_handle_vq(), vc.target is assigned with &v_req.tmf.lun[1] within a switch-case block and is then passed to vhost_scsi_get_req() which extracts vc->req and tpg. However, for a VIRTIO_SCSI_T_AN_* request, tpg is not required, so vc.target is set to NULL in this branch. Later, in vhost_scsi_get_req(), vc->target is dereferenced without being checked, leading to a null pointer dereference bug. This bug can be triggered from guest. When this bug occurs, the vhost_worker process is killed while holding vq->mutex and the corresponding tpg will remain occupied indefinitely. Below is the KASAN report: Oops: general protection fault, probably for non-canonical address 0xdffffc0000000000: 0000…

kernel security update
The Linux Kernel, the operating system core itself.
Security Fix(es):
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xhci: Handle TD clearing for multiple streams case When multiple streams are in use, multiple TDs might be in flight when an endpoint is stopped. We need to issue a Set TR Dequeue Pointer for each, to ensure everything is reset properly and the caches cleared. Change the logic so that any N>1 TDs found active for different streams are deferred until after the first one is processed, calling xhci_invalidate_cancelled_tds() again from xhci_handle_cmd_set_deq() to queue another command until we are done with all of them. Also change the error/"should never happen" paths to ensure we at least clear any affected TDs, even if we can't issue a command to clear the hardware cache, and complain loudly with an xhci_warn() if this ever happens. This problem case dates back to commit e9df17eb1408 ("USB: xhci: Correct assumptions about number of rings per endpoint.") early on in the XHCI driver's life, when stream support was first added. It was then identified but not fixed nor made into a warning in commit 674f8438c121 ("xhci: split handling halted endpoints into two steps"), which added a FIXME comment for the problem case (without materially changing the behavior as far as I can tell, though the new logic made the problem more obvious). Then later, in commit 94f339147fc3 ("xhci: Fix failure to give back some cached cancelled URBs."), it was acknowledged again. [Mathias: commit 94f339147fc3 ("xhci: Fix failure to give back some cached cancelled URBs.") was a targeted regression fix to the previously mentioned patch. Users reported issues with usb stuck after unmounting/disconnecting UAS devices. This rolled back the TD clearing of multiple streams to its original state.] Apparently the commit author was aware of the problem (yet still chose to submit it): It was still mentioned as a FIXME, an xhci_dbg() was added to log the problem condition, and the remaining issue was mentioned in the commit description. The choice of making the log type xhci_dbg() for what is, at this point, a completely unhandled and known broken condition is puzzling and unfortunate, as it guarantees that no actual users would see the log in production, thereby making it nigh undebuggable (indeed, even if you turn on DEBUG, the message doesn't really hint at there being a problem at all). It took me months of random xHC crashes to finally find a reliable repro and be able to do a deep dive debug session, which could all have been avoided had this unhandled, broken condition been actually reported with a warning, as it should have been as a bug intentionally left in unfixed (never mind that it shouldn't have been left in at all). > Another fix to solve clearing the caches of all stream rings with > cancelled TDs is needed, but not as urgent. 3 years after that statement and 14 years after the original bug was introduced, I think it's finally time to fix it. And maybe next time let's not leave bugs unfixed (that are actually worse than the original bug), and let's actually get people to review kernel commits please. Fixes xHC crashes and IOMMU faults with UAS devices when handling errors/faults. Easiest repro is to use hdparm to mark an early sector (e.g. 1024) on a disk as bad, then cat /dev/sdX > /dev/null in a loop. At least in the case of JMicron controllers, the read errors end up having to cancel two TDs (for two queued requests to different streams) and the one that didn't get cleared properly ends up faulting the xHC entirely when it tries to access DMA pages that have since been unmapped, referred to by the stale TDs. This normally happens quickly (after two or three loops). After this fix, I left the cat in a loop running overnight and experienced no xHC failures, with all read errors recovered…

It was discovered that the watch_queue event notification system contained an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service or escalate their privileges.)(CVE-2022-0995)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix potential UAF in cifs_debug_files_proc_show() Skip sessions that are being teared down (status == SES_EXITING) to avoid UAF.)(CVE-2024-26928)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: smb: client: fix potential UAF in smb2_is_valid_lease_break() Skip sessions that are being teared down (status == SES_EXITING) to avoid UAF.)(CVE-2024-35864)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: HID: core: zero-initialize the report buffer Since the report buffer is used by all kinds of drivers in various ways, let's zero- initialize it during allocation to make sure that it can't be ever used to leak kernel memory via specially-crafted report.)(CVE-2024-50302)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: media: dvbdev: prevent the risk of out of memory access The dvbdev contains a static variable used to store dvb minors. The behavior of it depends if CONFIG_DVB_DYNAMIC_MINORS is set or not. When not set, dvb_register_device() won't check for boundaries, as it will rely that a previous call to dvb_register_adapter() would already be enforcing it. On a similar way, dvb_device_open() uses the assumption that the register functions already did the needed checks. This can be fragile if some device ends using different calls. This also generate warnings on static check analysers like Coverity. So, add explicit guards to prevent potential risk of OOM issues.)(CVE-2024-53063)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: jfs: add a check to prevent array-index-out-of-bounds in dbAdjTree When the value of lp is 0 at the beginning of the for loop, it will become negative in the next assignment and we should bail out.)(CVE-2024-56595)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: blk-cgroup: Fix UAF in blkcg_unpin_online() blkcg_unpin_online() walks up the blkcg hierarchy putting the online pin. To walk up, it uses blkcg_parent(blkcg) but it was calling that after blkcg_destroy_blkgs(blkcg) which could free the blkcg, leading to the following UAF: ================================================================== BUG: KASAN: slab-use-after-free in blkcg_unpin_online+0x15a/0x270 Read of size 8 at addr ffff8881057678c0 by task kworker/9:1/117 CPU: 9 UID: 0 PID: 117 Comm: kworker/9:1 Not tainted 6.13.0-rc1-work-00182-gb8f52214c61a-dirty #48 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS unknown 02/02/2022 Workqueue: cgwb_release cgwb_release_workfn Call Trace: <TASK> dump_stack_lvl+0x27/0x80 print_report+0x151/0x710 kasan_report+0xc0/0x100 blkcg_unpin_online+0x15a/0x270 cgwb_release_workfn+0x194/0x480 process_scheduled_works+0x71b/0xe20 worker_thread+0x82a/0xbd0 kthread+0x242/0x2c0 ret_from_fork+0x33/0x70 ret_from_fork_asm+0x1a/0x30 </TASK> ... Kernel Live Patch Security Notice
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: fix use-after-free due to delegation race A delegation break could arrive as soon as we've called vfs_setlease. A delegation break runs a callback which immediately (in nfsd4_cb_recall_prepare) adds the delegation to del_recall_lru. If we then exit nfs4_set_delegation without hashing the delegation, it will be freed as soon as the callback is done with it, without ever being removed from del_recall_lru. Symptoms show up later as use-after-free or list corruption warnings, usually in the laundromat thread. I suspect aba2072f4523 'nfsd: grant read delegations to clients holding writes' made this bug easier to hit, but I looked as far back as v3.0 and it looks to me it already had the same problem. So I'm not sure where the bug was introduced; it may have been there from the beginning.)(CVE-2021-47506)
Jann Horn discovered that the watch_queue event notification subsystem in the Linux kernel contained an out-of-bounds write vulnerability. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash) or escalate their privileges.)(CVE-2022-0995)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: atlantic: eliminate double free in error handling logic Driver has a logic leak in ring data allocation/free, where aq_ring_free could be called multiple times on same ring, if system is under stress and got memory allocation error. Ring pointer was used as an indicator of failure, but this is not correct since only ring data is allocated/deallocated. Ring itself is an array member. Changing ring allocation functions to return error code directly. This simplifies error handling and eliminates aq_ring_free on higher layer.)(CVE-2023-52664)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ceph: prevent use-after-free in encode_cap_msg() In fs/ceph/caps.c, in encode_cap_msg(), 'use after free' error was caught by KASAN at this line - 'ceph_buffer_get(arg->xattr_buf);'. This implies before the refcount could be increment here, it was freed. In same file, in 'handle_cap_grant()' refcount is decremented by this line - 'ceph_buffer_put(ci->i_xattrs.blob);'. It appears that a race occurred and resource was freed by the latter line before the former line could increment it. encode_cap_msg() is called by __send_cap() and __send_cap() is called by ceph_check_caps() after calling __prep_cap(). __prep_cap() is where arg->xattr_buf is assigned to ci->i_xattrs.blob. This is the spot where the refcount must be increased to prevent 'use after free' error.)(CVE-2024-26689)

Left out here: 1,451 package rows, 2,167 versions, 3,271 references and the rest of 13 source descriptions. The JSON record has them. Also not on the record: 47 aliases. ID and package lookups still check them. Left out on purpose, here and in the API, to keep responses small: 95 source records.
